As much as we’d like to believe our health care system is vehemently using every available resource to combat cancer in its goal to discover a CURE, the existing evidence contradicts this finding. KAISER HEALTH NEWS: Widespread Hype Gives False Hope To Many Cancer Patients
SIDE NOTE: The Following Black Bold Underlined Italics Are For Emphasis Only
“Overall cancer survival has barely changed over the past decade. The 72 cancer therapies approved from 2002 to 2014 gave patients only 2.1 more months of life than older drugs, according to a study in JAMA Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery.“
“Two-thirds of cancer drugs approved in the past two years have no evidence showing that they extend survival at all, stated Dr. Vinay Prasad (Assistant Professor of Medicine, Knight Cancer Institute, Oregon Health and Sciences University.)”
“Recognizing the slow pace of progress, the American Society of Clinical Oncology has set goals for new cancer drugs of extending life or controlling tumors for at least 2.5 months. “Yet in a study published in September in JAMA Oncology, Mailankody found that only one in five cancer drugs approved from 2014 to 2016 met those standards.“
“Otis Brawley, chief medical officer at the American Cancer Society said he’s concerned that patients could be harmed by oncology drugs whose long-term side effects are unknown.”
“Patients and families are bombarded with the news that the country is winning the war against cancer. The news media hypes research results to attract readers. Drug companies promise “a chance to live longer” to boost sales. Hospitals woo paying customers with ads that appeal to patients’ fears and hopes.”
“I’m starting to hear more and more that we are better than I think we really are,” said Dr. Otis Brawley, chief medical officer at the American Cancer Society.”
“We’re starting to believe our own bullshit.”
So sad…so true. The greed of man is disgusting.

It’s a greed, however, each of us has the POWER to avoid. Choosing to VALUE our individual lives and pursuing a REALISTIC LONG TERM approach to quality health opens the doors to more opportunities than people realize. When we, as individuals, do not care enough to make the effort to achieve good health, these large industries will gladly step in (for profit) and take our health from us.

Sobering information. This should help people realize that their health is first and foremost in their own hands. Light and Love, Shona

They “know it,” passively they just don’t TRULY “know it” actively. Avoidance is the most common approach to maintaining one’s health these days. This attitude has lead to the growing rates of disease we face today. Prescription medication will NEVER provide the answer to achieving GOOD HEALTH like consumers typically assume.

That’s a bit discouraging for all the money and fundraising that is going to this cause

yes I parted with my oncologist when I shelved the letrozol, the side effects were debilitating, she listed them and waved me off the the GP. Spoke with 3 chemo pharmacists the other day and they said many had complained about the meds I’d been given and agreed it should be banned … doubt they will take action on it tho as their careers depend on drug pushing 😦

How many consumers do you think are aware that greater than 70% of oncologists surveyed stated they would NOT give these chemo drugs to their own family members? I guess we can classify this A CONFLICT OF INTEREST!

well said, here here .. but scared patients are vulnerable and will take any toxic cocktail the ‘professionals’ wish to poison them with 😦

This is why PREPARATION and PREVENTATIVE measures are so important. We should learn about various approaches to HEALTH and DISEASE during non stressful healthy times. We don’t retire and then seek methods to deal with running out of money! We plan for retirement. The same concept applies to LIVING. Planning and developing a team of health care professionals we can turn to in times of “crisis,” reduces the emotional burden and increases our confidence in CHOICES! Unfortunately this concept rarely is used. People say, “that makes sense” without ever applying it to their own lives.

I was blessed to have worked in the field off and on for years so had a reliable network I could refer to … fact is that we will all die one day so it’s really a choice about quality or quantity in the end and I chose quality of life 🙂

I think the majority of the population would side with your choice. This is why it is so important for the TRUTH to be “on display” to the public. If truthful results are going to remain HIDDEN, patients will continue to pay (emotionally, physically and financially) while the health care system continues to make claims about “fighting the war on cancer.” MD Anderson PROUDLY claims to be fighting this war for the last 60 YEARS demonstrating their experience. Most businesses that would have worked at a problem for 60 years WITHOUT SUCCEEDING would have likely gone “out of business!” Only the health care field can FAIL this long and still retain their patient base. I wonder how many people truly think about this dilemma from this perspective.

they have vested interest for their profit margins to drag the suffering out for as long as they can 😦

The greed of man and big pharmaceuticals is astounding but are we surprised? Not at all…We need to take charge of our own health, we all have access to the internet and we are all grownups and should question and not blindly accept what we are told…Question what meds you are being prescribed..look it up..If your Doctor doesn’t like your questions and it is not a two-way discussion..Maybe you should find another….. It is your body, your life..ASK, QUESTION, There are good doctors out there who will discuss your treatment with you and address your concerns.A good post and valid for us all to be concerned about.

Go into any Oncologist facility where they do Chemo infusions and you will find state of the art recliners flat screen TV’s and patients on there smart phones, yet the drugs they are using are in many cases 30+ years old.

Even the newer forms of chemo don’t extend life (or the quality of life) on average greater than 2.1 months. How often do you think the patient is provided this reality?

Frustrating and sad but very true. It’s great that you shared this as I think it probably helped a lot of people to see the situation for what it really is.

Reducing people’s defensive responses just long enough to give them a chance to honestly evaluate life’s situations for themselves is a major goal in my writing. My mission is to help people develop the confidence to think for themselves; not to dictate right from wrong. I’m as human as everyone else and I make mistakes too.

Someone I know recently had an appointment with a new doctor, who not only recommended various lifestyle changes, but made sure that this same someone came home with materials on how to implement those changes. I was so happy to hear this. Now, whether the changes get implemented is another thing, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

I was just dismissed by a dietician because she is adamently in belief of the American Diabetes Diet and I have chosen to follow a much lower carb diet cutting out a lot of their beliefs. I have done my research and feel the lower carb diet is for me. I have brought my sugars down considerably and on the ADA’s diet I would be taking more and more insulin to control all those carbs. The preach the opposite of what is needed. I know what I need to do to bring my diabetes under control yet they still run rapid. Luckily there are doctors and large groups of support out there for the low carb/high fat or keto diets.

Sounds like you’ve done your homework. There are multiple approaches that work. The approach that satisfies BOTH your needs and your body’s needs is the best approach to follow. Its a shame a professional is so adamant and unwilling to expand her understanding and application to this condition.

There were certainly still ways she could have helped me. but her attitude seems to be the norm. It is hard to find someone willing to work to my way of treating it and it isn’t like I am the only person who thinks this way and there are plenty of success stories and doctors reports supporting this way of eating. I am doing what I think is best and my numbers are down with the insulin so definitely in much better control.

My philosophy is simple: If a method is successfully achieving the desired outcome, continue UNTIL it changes. At that time MODIFY the plan and measure the results. If the results are GOOD, continue down this path until additional changes are needed.

This really is sad, but it is the reality of the situation. Even,if there was a chance of a slight extended life, what would that quality of life be….not good. We need to take charge, look at our lives, our lifestyles and make good of it all.

The big question is, “how do we get the majority of the world to accept these lifestyle changes and the BENEFITS that come with them?

People are in the “dark” about REAL FOOD and how ESSENTIAL it is to protect against ALL DISEASES.
Most people’s education beyond schooling comes from TV. With the financial biases demonstrated in advertising, it is no wonder why people are so lost.

This is terrifying. Things need to change.

Things only change when consumers become part of the solution. Waiting for “others” is the best way to maintain status quo. Each of us has the power to make personal decisions based on credible science. Most people make the mistake of waiting to be diagnosed with cancer before searching viable options. At that point, FEAR often takes control. The patient follows traditional protocols which often end poorly. LEARN before illness is experienced!
