THE PYRAMID MODEL OF HEALTH AND DISEASE

As a physician passionate about health, I constantly search for answers to discover why so many people live a “DISEASED” life. After creating the following pyramid, I realized that good quality health produced a broad base to this structure, but occupied a much smaller vertical component. The four bottom rows qualify as the “HEALTHY” foundation. The next seven rows qualify as the “DISEASED” body of the pyramid. The final row is DEATH. If you look at the blue arrow and its relation to the rows of the pyramid, you will (visually) see what I mean.

As you can see, good health is the FOUNDATION OF LIFE if we make this choice. It can also potentially be a relatively “disease free life” until DEATH (in many cases.) The next pyramid, emphasizes a lifestyle designed to improve BALANCE as the blue arrow between HEALTH and DISEASE indicates. The “DISEASED” body has been removed from this pyramid leaving a solid “HEALTHY” foundation followed by the inevitable outcome, DEATH. This can (potentially) be achieved by removing most of the self inflicted DISEASE many of us impose on ourselves.

For a majority of people throughout the world, the FOUNDATION OF HEALTH doesn’t exist, or has “eroded” as a result of self negligence. Although the replacement foundation appears similar to the HEALTHY PYRAMID, it is structurally weak. Its design is based on a “diseased” lifestyle. You will notice in the next pyramid the blue arrow is void of any health attributes. It’s vicious cycle places the human body and mind on a recurring path of DISEASE until reaching the final outcome, DEATH.

Since the PATH OF DISEASE disguises SYMPTOMS by stimulating GRATIFICATION centers in the brain, many people are unaware they follow this dangerous path. This is the purpose of displaying these three pyramids. By finding the pyramid that BEST REFLECTS the path you’re living, you will discover VISUALLY where you reside on the BLUE HEALTH/DISEASE ARROW.

Seriously, thank you very much for all your support. I am a visual learner and thought the pyramids would help support the written words and message.

  3. I hope the second one too! Fascinating visuals, it really makes it hard to not see the truth staring back at you. Why do you think so may of us live such an unbalanced life when it comes to personal health and wellness? Is it a character thing, education, a heart/spiritual matter? A combination of all three and more I would imagine. The more people read your blog and other good sources of information, the better they will learn how to empower themselves and hopefully see how valuable their lives are. Multiply this by a few thousand and some serious change will start to happen.

    1. I’d bet on the second pyramid for you! 🙂

This BALANCE issue is likely a combination of the points you make. In a child’s mind, the world centers around them. Adults lose this concept over time making their world center on the needs of MANY others instead. Regaining CONTROL through SELF EMPOWERMENT is a key to solving this dilemma. Hopefully the many wonderful blog sites that contribute to this goal will help overcome this problem.

    1. The pyramids were designed to show the VARIOUS COMPONENTS. So many people get hung up on exercise and nutrition. Although they certainly play an important role, they are ONLY 2 COMPONENTS.

The weather has truly been amazing! I know your weather has been spectacular.

    1. Not being a tech geek, they took some time to create. I new a visual would be necessary to explain the meaning behind the written words. Thank you for sharing your comment and reassuring me I didn’t miss the mark.

Great visual representation! I’m just curious as to why you think to put morality & ethics on the second step in the health portion? In one way, I would tend to think that if the ability to achieve good health through proper food, sleep, etc. was not achievable (through lack of resources or freedoms), then at least you could sustain your integrity, morality, etc. Just a thought :). Reminds me of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs – I think they need to expand on that to include some of what’s here!

    1. You bring up an excellent point. I’m sure people view life’s hierarchies through different lenses. I chose to provide (primarily) the physical (supportive) needs as the base of the foundation, because some might argue the second tier displays less tangibly defined concepts. It is difficult to build a strong structure where people “argue” about the bases “ingredients.

I also agree with you that missing elements in the base would not cause one to sacrifice moral or ethical integrity, however could AFFECT the mental/emotional stability and performance resulting in some possible compromise in health. More importantly the pyramid shows how integrated the four rows are (regardless of how they are arranged.) As a society, we have a natural tendency to look at life as CAUSE and EFFECT. This approach creates simplicity, but often, inaccurate conclusions. The integration of the various components of health synergistically achieve more POSITIVE comprehensive outcomes than any outcome achieved attempting to match ONE CAUSE with ONE EFFECT.
I hope as people view this pyramid, they begin to understand this concept and consider integrating this approach to life.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I always appreciate when a reader makes me “dive back in to the water” and reassess my own thinking. 🙂
