QUESTION:
When was the last time you ate a meal that included one or more of the following: GLYPHOSATE, GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS, BUTYLATED HYDROXYANISOLE, BUTYLATED HYDROXYTOLUENE, BLUE/GREEN/RED OR YELLOW DYE, SODIUM BENZOATE, SODIUM NITRATES/NITRITES, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP OR TRANS FATS?
ANSWER:
Most likely TODAY, YESTERDAY, the DAY BEFORE THAT and the DAY BEFORE THAT!
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOUR LIFE?

These are the “THINGS” in most of the foods we eat that add flavor, color and texture and preserve them from spoiling. They also happen to be the residues of pesticides and chemical compounds determined to CAUSE CANCER and other DISEASES.
IF PEOPLE KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THESE DANGERS, WHY DO THEY CONTINUE TO REGULARLY EAT THESE FOODS?

The vast majority of people believe:

these foods and substances are NOT DANGEROUS. The belief is, “if they were dangerous, they would not be sold to the public.”
-
they do not cause harm because harmful ingredients would produce symptoms (ex. food poisoning)
-
these cheap dangerous chemicals in processed foods do not interfere with taste or hunger satisfaction.
-
the convenience, pricing and availability outweigh the risks or dangers.
Until the consumer is CONFRONTED with JUSTIFIABLE REASONS they PERSONALLY RELATE TO, attitudes about FOOD CHOICES are unlikely to change.
LET’S CREATE A JUSTIFIABLE REASON FOR YOU!

If I were to ask you how dangerous X-RAYS are, what would your answer be? They expose the body to radiation capable of mutating cells that result in CANCER. What about CAT scans? These also expose your body to radiation. What about mammograms? This is another source of radiation exposure. What about dental x-rays? Yet, another source. I’ll bet most people do not consider the dangers of cumulative radiation exposure and its association with CANCER.
WHY?

X-rays don’t cause physical PAIN

X-rays don’t produce FEAR in our minds
If this procedure was really so safe, why are technicians required to stand behind lead lined walls OUTSIDE THE RADIATION FIELD? Why do these technicians wear badges that measure the levels of radiation they’re exposed to? It’s because radiation is DANGEROUS.
Just because you can’t FEEL the danger doesn’t mean the danger is any LESS REAL.
This concept brings us back to our processed foods and the chemicals, residual pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, heavy metals and other volatile contaminants in these foods.
Just because you can’t FEEL/TASTE the danger doesn’t mean the danger is any LESS REAL.
We expose ourselves to dangerous chemicals and residues 7 DAYS/WEEK. For the average consumer, some combination of DANGEROUS ingredients or types of food are found in EVERY MEAL. Many of these substances have been classified by the Centers of Disease Control as CARCINOGENIC (defined as CANCER causing.) The average person consumes these substances WITHOUT FEAR because they “FEEL” NO PAIN (just like x-rays.) The big difference is x-rays are RARELY used by the consumer, yet still REQUIRE additional protection for the patient and x-ray technician prior to exposure because of the “HIDDEN DANGERS.”
These same “hidden dangers” are found in the foods we eat EVERY DAY.
What are the chances an x-ray used occasionally requiring EXTRA SAFETY MEASURES is likely to cause life threatening cancer?

Another great post. I do hope this makes people think twice about what they decide to put in their bodies. It is strange to me that people have become much more conscious about applying sunscreen, seatbelt usage, and smoking but continue as a society to care very little about what we eat. I suspect in large part this is due to marketing messages burying the cold hard facts. I hope this post makes your readers think twice before they eat!

It’s called satisfying consumer demand. People wanted conveniences at reduced (monetary) costs. These additives added shelf life reducing the need for daily shopping. The physical costs however, were never considered by the consumer. Choosing “convenience” seems much easier in the short haul. Our society is not very good at looking “down the road” at the rest of our lives and the complications caused by the perceived convenient choices we make.

Marketing of processed food, fast food and prescriptions is big business and will end up killing us. If it looks good on TV, it must be good for me. Pitiful.

Consumers need to realize how UNIMPORTANT they are to these various BIG industries. Spending one’s money on harmful services and products resulting in horrible diseases defines masochism.

Trying to create “relatable” analogies can be challenging. I hope this comparison created a better understanding for the real dangers an unhealthy diet causes. Personally I get tired of hearing people say, “I know I shouldn’t be eating this….”) just before injecting themselves with additional insulin to compensate for this pattern of behavior.

I’m usually pretty good on eating whole foods (not perfect by any means but I’m conformable with the balance I have). It’s the x rays I think where I need to improve. I have to get mammograms every year because a minor medical condition I have puts me at risk for breast cancer, but I don’t think I need dental x rays done so frequently. My dentist can be very stubborn about this and I am actively searching for one that has a different philosophy. Thanks for making me think again. 😉

Have you ever considered Thermography as an alternative diagnostic tool to mammography for your situation? It can detect abnormal metabolic activity much sooner than mammography without any ionizing radiation. You might consider discussing this with a “women’s health center” as well as your physician.

It’s just not believed. People can’t accept the fact that food contributes significantly to REAL DISEASE. It has become too important a part of their lives. When people find PURPOSE and MEANING in life (outside of food) it becomes much easier.

Well said! We really do have to re-program ourselves to see it for what it is, something given to enjoy in moderation and to sustain and strengthen us (minus the chemicals).

It’s is so true that despite knowing the fact that things we eat daily is like slow poison we still stick to our tounge rather than Mind. A major shift is required to make people realise worth of fresh food.

There is a fine line between taking responsibility and choosing to LIVE an unhealthy lifestyle. It is delineated at the point where NEEDS take priority over WANTS. The good news is the GREY area that satisfies the WANTS without causing LONG TERM consequences.

You’re so right, we don’t think about it. Because once we do….now we REALLY have to take some responsibility for our health.

In all honesty, I’m a 80-90% clean/ 10-20% comfort food believer. This prevents feelings of deprivation and keeps the blood chem profile healthy.

Haha! Technically, Whopper is a tasty food item that is easy to pronounce, yes.
But I was going for the INGREDIENTS of said Whopper! 😜
If you cannot pronounce them, don’t EAT the Whopper! 😇

Reading labels is hard for some people, but I agree with the person who said, if you can’t pronounce (the ingredients), don’t eat it!

You’ll notice, the produce isle doesn’t have any list of ingredients. Maybe people wanting to place less “strain” on their eyes (by avoiding unpronounceable ingredients) would consider purchasing more vegetables and fruits. 🙂

Of course, and we do. We also buy local when we can. For example, when asparagus is out of season here, we refuse to buy Mexican or Peruvian, and go without 😉

Let’s hope ‘this hits home’ for some. Reading ingredients is an interesting project! I started reading labels many years ago, if I could not get passed the first five listed ingredients without knowing exacting what they were or could not pronounce them, for me it was a no no. Result: my grocery trolley was pretty much empty except for mainly fresh fruits and fresh veg.
