DECEPTION WITHOUT REMORSE

publication-angry-doc-600-2

This post is 1075 words. If you care about your health, I would encourage you to take the time to read it.

The average consumer bases their health treatments ENTIRELY on their family physician’s recommendations. Whether these doctors are medical physicians, chiropractic physicians, naturopathic physicians or osteopathic physicians their is GOOD REASON to question the wisdom in this accepted practice. First, I truly believe most doctors (in every discipline) perform their services with the BEST INTENTIONS. Unfortunately, doctors (because of busy schedules) rely on research and information provided them. They assume this information is credible and honest and, in turn, follow the protocols established by their guidelines. The consumer then follows their doctor’s instructions believing their knowledge accurately addresses their health needs. The problem with this hierarchy of TRUST includes:

  1. the limited TRANSPARENCY of disclosure

  2. the limited (if not absent)  INDEPENDENT ANALYSIS.

Would you agree that HUMAN GREED can potentially play a role offsetting HONEST CONCLUSIONS?

.

3914211_orig-part-iiThe tobacco industry PROVED through its OWN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH that tobacco did NOT CAUSE CANCER. Smokers believed this research and continued smoking. Non smokers opposed this research and argued its DESIGN was flawed and its conclusions biased. After all, it was looking to protect its MONETARY INTERESTS and was willing to do so at the expense of HUMAN LIVES. How many years did this battle rage? How many lives were sacrificed?

WHAT WAS THE FINAL CONCLUSION?

SMOKING CAUSES CANCER!

Who went to jail and who was held culpable over this deception?

????????????????????

.

As I talk with people to better understand what criteria they use to base their trust in health care policies, it becomes clear they base it on:

  1. FEAR that DOCTORS WILL REPRIMAND THEM

  2. THE LACK OF CONFIDENCE AND ABILITY to reach their own conclusions.

Big Industry relies on this FEAR FACTOR to CONTROL policy decisions that affect ALL OUR LIVES. These industries know the TRUTH will one day be discovered. The goal is to DELAY THE TRUTH long enough to maximize profits while covering the cost of any LIABILITY.

EXAMPLE: “Merck to Pay $830 Million to Settle Vioxx Securities Claims. More than 11 years after pulling its Vioxx painkiller from the market, Merck & Co. agreed to pay another $830 Million to settle litigation, raising its total payouts in lawsuits and government investigations to more than $8.5 Billion.” Jan 15, 2016

Reference: VIOXX LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT ARTICLE

.

In 1997, Dr. Garret FitzGerald showed in a study (funded by Merck) that Vioxx could cause blood clot problems increasing patient susceptibility to heart attacks and strokes. This led to a request by Merck to FitzGerald to “tone down his conclusions” and “remove” references by other researchers that supported his findings. When FitzGerald didn’t comply, Merck turned to other researchers to “refine” the data to “soften” the outcome. This ALTERED DATA (demonstrating its benefits) was shared in a multi million dollar advertising campaign with family physicians kept in the dark concerning the dangers of this drug. This is just one of many drugs that was “fast tracked” through the FDA. It was removed only after the “damage was done.” This is just another example proving GREED more VALUABLE than HUMAN LIFE. Our doctors are used as pawns relying on these pharmaceutical studies to determine the SAFETY and EFFICACY of these drugs. (Reference: British Medical Journal “What Have We Leaned From Vioxx?”)

.

ARE YOU NOW BEGINNING TO SEE THAT CONFLICTS OF INTEREST EXIST?

.

If pharmaceutical companies are willing to produce dangerous products AFTER they have been made aware of research demonstrating SAFETY ISSUES and knowing that LIABILITY will be found resulting in MONETARY COMPENSATION awards (in the END,) how do you think they would behave if Congress gave them:

BLANKET IMMUNITY FROM ANY LIABILITY?

.

Congress did just that for EVERY DRUG MAKER for EVERY VACCINE they manufacture!

42 U.S. Code § 300aa–22 – Standards of responsibility

No vaccine manufacturer shall be liable in a civil action for damages arising from a vaccine-related injury or death associated with the administration of a vaccine after October 1, 1988.”

On February 22, 2011 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that vaccine manufacturers were protected from ALL lawsuits associated with vaccine use. If an adverse injury was sustained, the petitioner would be required to file a vaccine injury claim for compensation with the Office of Special Masters of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, which administers a NO_FAULT system for litigating vaccine injury claims. This ruling applied to ALL EXISTING VACCINES as well as any ADDED to the future vaccine schedule:

.

DID YOU KNOW:

It is common practice for the federal government to buy vaccines from the pharmaceutical industry and sell them to the various states. The government is then reimbursed by the states based on the quantity of  vaccines used by the public.  If the states do not use adequate quantities of these vaccines, the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT “TAKES A FINANCIAL LOSS.” This is a LEGAL “FOR PROFIT” BUSINESS ARRANGEMENT that is supported and implemented by the policy makers in the medical establishment.

.

ARE YOU NOW BEGINNING TO SEE THAT CONFLICTS OF INTEREST EXIST?

.

HOW DO WE DETERMINE THE BEST COURSE TO FOLLOW?

We don’t rely SOLELY on unilateral answers from professionals and institutions with “skin in the game.” We should listen to our doctors, our pharmaceutical industry and our government’s recommendations and then ASK THEM TO SUPPLY us with CREDIBLE independent resources (like the Cochrane Group) WITHOUT “skin in the game” (that have reached different conclusions) to help us UNDERSTAND the opposing views. The consumer would then be able to reach his or her own conclusions based on the best information available to make the BEST INFORMED DECISION!

Were you provided this information prior to receiving your flu shot? Why would you want a vaccine that specifically states,  “there have been no controlled trials adequately demonstrating a decrease in influenza disease after vaccination with Flulaval.?”

flulaval-adjusted

  1. Have I convinced you that conflicts of interest are potentially causing unnecessary injuries and deaths?

  2. Can you see how GOOD doctors with GOOD intentions can be providing dangerous recommendations based on following harmful guidelines provided by the pharmaceutical industry and supported by government regulatory agencies?

  3. Have I created enough doubt in our system to consider seeking independent sources before complying with treatments and procedures?

  4. Are you aware I have NO “skin in the game?” I am retired and receive NO COMPENSATION for products or services associated with patient care.

  5. Will you be kind enough to share the TRUTH whether this article has created enough concern to inspire you to become more involved in your own health and the decision making process?

I encourage you to investigate and challenge my reporting of these facts. The best TRUTH survives all challenges.

  1. Your post is very important and I will share it too.
Here in Spain many doctors look mad, if you ask them any questions to, why this medication or why this test etc. They react like, you just trust me, I’m the doctor and know all.
This annoy me, maybe because it was different in Denmark, where I come from.

    1. Those doctors who are CONFIDENT and CARE about the BEST RESULTS for their patients should welcome CHALLENGES and RESEARCH. Challenges can STRENGTHEN the validity of a treatment or procedure or can disprove it helping the doctor pursue better means to achieving BETTER RESULTS.
As physicians, we are NOT perfect! Our goal should be to pursue honesty with conviction and integrity as we seek TRUTH and BETTER ANSWERS.

    1. That would be a good STARTING place. I hope in time, however, THOUGHTS become ACTIONS for those dissatisfied with the quality of care they receive and the “lack of results” attained.

    1. True, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Rather than feeling like we are “chained” to a “SYSTEM” that imposes its strength on us, we can choose to become more ACTIVE in seeking credible ALTERNATIVE ANSWERS that provide quality outcomes that better suit our NEEDS. These alternative answers are READILY AVAILABLE. At this time, people (in general) have CHOSEN to remain in the confines of a health care system that seeks status quo. This is their right, however, this direction will continue to yield the UNSATISFACTORY results they complain about. I believe this is what Einstein defined as “insanity.”

  5. I think it is changing with each generation. My parents relied on a family Dr. that they had for 40 plus years. They never challenged him, ever. Baby boomers became more aware, go into medical visits with more information, a bit more skepticism. The internet generation presents new challenges…the availability of information, some verified, some questionable. My own Dr. had cartoons on his wall that addressed WebMD.

As for myself, with the somewhat reluctant approval of my Dr., took myself off of statins, having side effects that I couldn’t live with…and I’ve never felt better. We have to be our own advocate, always.

    Nice piece, Doc. Important information.

    1. Your comment is likely appreciated by many in our age group. I am also glad you mentioned your physician posted cartoons addressing WebMD, but more importantly, access to information throughout the world. It is interesting how people (in general) view similar subjects so very differently. Where your doctor sees a world of information in a humorous and potentially naive manner, I view it as an opportunity for EVERY INDIVIDUAL to participate in their own health and welfare taking back CONTROL in the decision making process. Just because inaccuracies exist on the web shouldn’t minimize or invalidate the important responsibility people are undertaking to LEARN and ACTIVELY pursue a better QUALITY OF LIFE.

Where some doctors may believe their education offers “comprehensive answers” to health and disease, I am more humble in my belief that my education provided a basis; a foundation upon which awareness developed into greater understanding about the innate strength of the BODY and MIND. My role evolved into a role where I helped my patients develop awareness and knowledge how to harness the strength of this BODY and MIND and permit it to function as optimally as possible to maintain health and prevent disease. Throughout my career, it was NEVER my goal to MAKE PEOPLE HEALTHY; it was my goal to MAKE IT POSSIBLE (through the services I offered and the knowledge I provided) TO MAKE THEMSELVES HEALTHY!

    1. Thank you so much for the nomination. As I have expressed to some fellow bloggers, I have participated in the past and have had some bloggers respond negatively claiming these awards were an imposition. Although my participation was intended to be positive, I have elected not to participate with these awards to avoid further confrontation. I am grateful and humbled by your nomination and truly appreciate the thought.

    1. Hopefully greater awareness creates greater self empowerment when doctors recommend procedures and treatments that may prove more beneficial to them than YOU. Awareness is a good starting point. Behavioral changes need to follow to transform words into beneficial outcomes.

  11. Sadly all too true! Doctors ARE drug pushers and we pay them to pour toxins into our body?

If financial advisors have to publicly declare commissions then why are the rules for doctor’s so different? The benefits they reap from pharma’s are astronomical. So please please check everything, especially the so called research – who did it? What did they find? And you will be very surprised, shocked and probably horrified.

Drugs are drugs whether they are prescription or street purchased.

    1. Well said. When there is “skin in the game,” motives need to be part of the question one asks oneself. The other important question is, “what are the other alternatives?” If a doctor says that none exist, they are either poorly informed or unwilling to share viable options. There are very few cases where only one option is truly available. The more we ask our doctors for these alternative options, the better educated THEY BECOME. This helps improve the quality of SERVICE and CARE they offer their patients.

      1. I haven’t found too many doctors willing to expand their knowledge about alternatives. They are completely astounded that I’m so healthy, my iron levels are good [Im vegetarian most of my life] that my Vit D level is far above average, etc [I’m well covered up] but they don’t wish to know how I do it. It’s like they are so restricted in their outlook?

They are so used to treating the sick that they don’t have time to enquire how one stays healthy.

        1. You’re talking about traditional docs. There are plenty of doctors “starving” for patients to communicate and share new ideas and concepts. They advertise themselves as holistic, functional, integrative, etc…
The docs you’re talking about are acute disease care “specialists.” They are good at this (important) type of care, but lack the skills and knowledge to deal with restoring health to those patients with chronic conditions.

I try to express myself to make the content straight forward with reference sites to reduce personal biases.

Helping people to “lower their defensive reactions” is critical to my writing. The purpose is to create a DIALOGUE; not to IMPOSE personal beliefs.

    1. That’s the goal. Sharing perspectives with the world they rarely have an opportunity to see. In a health care world full of bias and conflicts of interest, the consumer is guided down a path they believe exists for their well being. In some cases this may be so. I provide information so the consumer can make the best INFORMED DECISION having access to information not readily shared.

  15. This is an excellent and informative post. I will be sharing. It’s so scary, really. My 6 year old is a type 1 diabetic – not only pharmaceuticals but it shocked me how much our Endo & nurses pushed aspartame…we stick with real sugar when we have high sugar treats. It’s terrifying to me just what is pushed out there in “big pharma” & “big food” without any real proof it’s even safe 😳 Thanks for posting!!

    1. The average consumer doesn’t realize that family physicians and specialists follow protocols established by the INDUSTRY which includes a PROFITABLE BUSINESS MODEL. Doctor’s must follow the pharmaceutical model otherwise they will be disciplined or fired.

Medical schools do not have “REAL” NUTRITION part of their curriculum. Food is one of THE MOST influential factors determining health quality, and our professionals have limited to no education on this subject. Yet, we are advised to turn to them for guidance in this matter.

As consumers become more willing to critically view the health care profession, they will assume greater responsibility. The medical field is EXCELLENT at critical and emergency care. There is no better field at creating stability in these emergency cases. However, when it comes to chronic diseases, they do NOT score well.
