IMPROVING YOUR HEALTH (AND LIFE) BY HOLDING YOUR NOSE

491063540What does holding your nose have to do with improving the health and quality of your life? It will simply hide  the “emotional distasteful SMELL” that prevents people from following new paths that provide desired outcomes. More and more people are walking in circles that limit the boundaries of their vision to see new effective pathways that lead to improving the health and quality of their lives. In this article, I will share a REALISTIC EFFECTIVE PATHWAY that is capable of helping you SEE beyond your current circle that may confine you.

One of the factors that makes this EFFECTIVE PATHWAY so compliable is that it requires minimal initial changes to one’s life. This pathway simply requires altering the order of scheduled events of the day while SLOWLY incorporating ESSENTIAL NEEDS. It requires the individual to start with (and ACCOMPLISH) the LEAST enjoyable activities or events FIRST! This process helps us achieve ESSENTIAL NEEDS and provides us room to satisfy EMOTIONAL WANTS based on a formula of SUCCESS. The more efficient we become at completing “UNENJOYABLE TASKS,” the more time we create to pursue “ENJOYABLE WANTS! It helps us overcome procrastination. Pursuing activities or events IN THIS ORDER provides the opportunity to end each day satisfying emotional wants (if chosen!) Just make sure the essential needs list isn’t UNREALISTICALLY LONG. This will simply delay gratification reducing compliance with the plan of action.

An example may look as follows:

Instead of starting the day with a cup of coffee and a bagel or donut, start the day with a glass of water and 10-20 minutes of light to moderate walking. After the walk, have a healthy breakfast (ex. eggs and vegetables and coffee or tea OR plain greek yogurt, walnuts, mixed berries, a teaspoon of raw honey and coffee or tea.) Go take a shower after breakfast. If you still want the bagel or donut after getting dressed, EAT IT. In most cases, the appetite for the bagel or donut will dissipate. This method REALISTICALLY approaches life in a healthier manner without depriving oneself the right to indulge. It also starts the day with “exercise” that can be expanded as one acclimates to it.

Apply this same concept to the work day. Get the tasks you dislike out of the way FIRST, so you can end the work day doing work assignments you ENJOY. Wait until you see the change in ATTITUDE you will experience at work and at home. You’ll be less tired, less stressed and more prepared to ENJOY the evening!

Creating a healthier and happier life requires some thought and EFFORT. It requires changing behaviors you’re accustomed to (even if they’re self destructive) without necessarily being completely dissatisfied with your life. Just remember, NOT BEING TOTALLY DISSATISFIED is not the same thing as BEING SATISFIED. Most people can not PASSIVELY “sit by” and achieve the type of life they truly desire. This PLAN OF ACTION simplifies the PROCESS by ONLY changing the ORDER OF EVENTS (to minimize disruption in one’s daily activities) while very slowly adding essential components (like exercise) necessary to improve one’s health and quality of life.

Why not see if this PLAN OF ACTION creates a more productive you by REDUCING STRESS while improving ATTITUDE and HEALTH? Watch how the self limiting boundaries you’ve created over the years expand, as you achieve greater awareness of SELF and discover new ENJOYABLE opportunities in life. Why wait to hit rock bottom or continue to live on an emotional roller coaster when you deserve so much more?

Go ahead, grab your nose and take the plunge. Wait until you see how much better your life is (and the world looks) upon breaching the surface of the water!

  1. Thanks for the post! My morning routine includes warm lemon water, one hour (sometimes 2) of Pilates practice, delicious coffee and a donut.. Do you think it will work out as well as water and walking? 🙂

    1. Glad to see you understand the relevance in morning “rituals” and are skilled in practicing the art of healthy living.

Since you left out the breakfast you eat PRIOR to having your coffee and donut, I can’t reach a final conclusion. My guess is, you probably have a quality meal PRIOR to these indulgences. 🙂

  2. Love this post and the simple yet effective method you describe of changing up the order of tasks from least favorite to most. As a procrastinator I know full well how helpful this can be, but I’ve never thought of it from the perspective of how many more doors of opportunity and growth can be opened by mixing things up like this. Great message!

    1. We get so used to seeing life from our own perspective, new opportunities are limited until we open our eyes and share our ideas in the blogging world. This is why the comment field in our postings is so important.

    1. Thank you for the comment Lynne. When readers share their opinions and validate the concepts I write about, it adds credibility for other readers to use. Thank you for being an important part of the work I do.

  4. I’ve done this with work for a long time – I never thought to use it for everyday life, but I am sure it would work just as well for that as well! Thank you for what promises to be a great post for my day-to-day life!

    1. It has worked for me and I know it will work for others. There is no one right method, but this provides a foundation that each person can modify to suit their particular needs.

  5. When I look at the visual of the coffee and white flour bagel beside the picture of the colourful fruit, chia seed and coconut it hits me why are we so drawn to what is in that picture on the left. And so true when we have that 20 minute walk 1st and feeling great chances are we will lose interest in that coffee and bagel.

As always, thank you for your motivation and inspiration. 🙂

    1. Thank you for your comment, Carl. Until people physically experience the changes I write about, the POWER in these words doesn’t exist. When a person places these words into actions and experiences the results, a new MINDSET is created offering REAL HOPE. The reason so many people have repeatedly FAILED is because they have never truly followed a REALISTIC PLAN OF ACTION with a LONG TERM ATTAINABLE GOAL.

  6. Great post and to change a little a time helps to go to the right direction without it feels to much in one time 🙂

    1. People are often in a rush. They want a “goal” but often lack the patience required to succeed. If people focused more on committing themselves to “LIVING A REALISTIC, but HEALTHY LIFESTYLE” the goals they desire become attainable.

  7. ‘Up & Moving’ is always my best method of attacking the day! Prayer first, bottle of water on the way to Daily Mass, home for a walk around the neighborhood with Helen (the best golden-retriever in the universe,) shower and THEN breakfast. Our parish priest taught me long-ago “No bible, no breakfast, No bible, no bed.” Giggles. But it truly has helped ingrain in me ‘book ending’ my day with what truly matters and keeps me from straying (to far) off the path!

I’ve never considering exercising before breakfast but I will give it a go tomorrow! I normally feel less active later in the day and sometimes my workout can feel like a bit of a chore.

    1. You might need to play with the intensity and duration of exercise, but if you balance these out with the needs of your body, you will wind up with a boost in “rest of the day” energy.

Some people need to fuel their bodies before exercise because they get light headed and/or tired during the workout. Eating some oatmeal or wheat toast and peanut butter usually provides enough fuel.

If you don’t need to eat first, your body will begin to burn stored fat more efficiently.
