Who Should We Blame?

adam_and_eve.jpg.size.custom.crop.834x650

Men and Women have a tendency to reflexively and defensively “point fingers” at infinite sources to find blame for life’s difficulties. Often, we spend more time devoted to searching for these sources than we do resolving the problems. What are the driving forces that deflect our focus from problem solving to “name blaming?” What personal need is satisfied by identifying a person, an organization or an industry as the source of “evil” if this process doesn’t improve the quality of our lives?

.

moving-parts-teamwork-cogs Part IILife does NOT have to be as complicated as we make it. The more “moving parts” we create in life, the greater the chances for failure. Rather than spending countless hours seeking refuge hoping to find people suffering the same situations we find ourselves in, our time may be better utilized seeking simple solutions. The “SIMPLE SOLUTIONS” I offer have “fewer moving parts,” but possess other challenges requiring self discipline and a strong belief in self worth.

SIMPLE should NOT be misinterpreted as EASY.

.

Food, exercise and stress reduction are three important areas we can (and have) pointed the “finger of blame.”

AWARENESS ALONE does NOT RESULT in BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION.

In this post, I will incorporate the concept “SIMPLE SOLUTION” to incentivize anyone teetering on the edge of SELF COMMITMENT and SELF IMPROVEMENT:

1. FOOD: – “SIMPLE SOLUTION,”choose the best quality of foods available. This is defined as foods containing the highest quality of nutrients WITHOUT contaminants (or added contaminants.) “SIMPLE SOLUTION” means providing animals and agriculture the natural environment to grow and exist as intended by nature. It means avoiding short cuts and artificial means to alter an outcome. Simply put, it means eating animals that graze and develop from their natural (grass fed) environment. It means eating fish from the wild waters that provide natural sources for them to grow and develop. It means eating agricultural products grown from UNTREATED seeds in natural soil free of chemical additives.

.

“BUT IT’S EXPENSIVE!”

.

It’s SIGNIFICANTLY MORE EXPENSIVE to live a lifestyle resulting in treatments for cancer, diabetes, strokes, cardiac disease and obesity. When you include the emotional and physical pain in addition to the financial expense, the cost is catastrophic. The “SIMPLE SOLUTION” is to eat healthy by removing the man made “moving parts” including chemically treated food sources and the increased risks associated with their consumption.

SIMPLE IS NOT NECESSARILY EASY!

.

crap-blast

2. EXERCISE: – “SIMPLE SOLUTION,” choose a form(s) of exercise you are WILLING to do on a regular basis (3-5X/Week to make this realistic and achievable.) Any form of exercise is better than sedentary living!

.

“BUT I DON’T HAVE THE TIME!”

.

So where does the time come from for extended stays in the hospital after suffering complications of cancer, cardiac disease, diabetes, stroke and obesity? Time has always been available. The HONEST answer is, “we don’t want to spend available time exercising.” The “SIMPLE SOLUTION” is changing into our “ADULT PANTS” and EXERCISING because WE KNOW it’s an essential part of healthy living. Not only do we benefit from the outcome, it sets an important example for our children to follow. Does this not fall under the heading of parental responsibility?

SIMPLE IS NOT NECESSARILY EASY!

.

.

3. STRESS REDUCTION: – “SIMPLE SOLUTION,” choose “things” in life that make us “feel good” (that result in a healthy beneficial outcome.) Each person must find their own “feel good  channel to take accumulated stress and deposit it. This concept is a “SIMPLE SOLUTION,” unfortunately, most people do not create their own channels and choose instead, AVOIDANCE, as an alternative option. This approach creates the perfect environment within our bodies for stress to fester and grow resulting in all sorts of physical and mental damage.

.

“THE JOB, THE SPOUSE, THE CHILDREN, THE BILLS, etc… MAKE THIS IMPOSSIBLE TO RESOLVE”

.

Finding CHANNELS for HEALTHY stress relief should be a desirable rewarding experience creating “new room” for QUALITY LIVING. These channels are activities, places, events or simply “quiet time” that “refill our batteries” and remove the toxicity of spent energy. Finding PLEASURABLE “things” in life to channel stress is a “SIMPLE SOLUTION”, yet few people realize the limited sources of pleasure in their current lives and the limited frequency they experience these pleasures.

SIMPLE IS NOT NECESSARILY EASY!

.

.

We point fingers and find sources to blame, but how does this benefit our lives and the quality we seek? For decades our sources of blame have remained consistent. Time has simply added more “moving parts” to our problems.

Maybe it’s time to consider creating “SIMPLE SOLUTIONS” to FIX and BALANCE our LIVES. Of course, some would rather complain and follow a destructive path toward misery and discontent. It’s NOT my job to decide for you. Instead, I prefer to offer motivation and encouragement to those seeking a POSITIVE ALTERNATIVE to a darker reality and offer a:

SIMPLE SOLUTION

SIMPLE, HOWEVER, IS NOT NECESSARILY EASY!

BUT, SO WORTH THE EFFORT!

  1. Another excellent article, Jonathan! I love that you point out that NOT doing the things that are good for us come at their own expenses. I don’t know that I ever feel like exercising when I get up in the morning, but I’m healthier because I did and have the perk of fitting into my clothes. It is a daily battle!

Articles like this encourage me to keep fighting it! Thank you.

    1. Than you so much. I wrote an article called “Exercise Confessions.” I have been exercising for over 38 years and face the same challenges you mention. People assume “gym people” live to exercise. NOT TRUE! Personally, I live to enjoy the quality of life I have taken responsibility for. Good choices in life are not always about instant gratification; they can be tedious and sacrificing, but the benefits speak for themselves.
Keep fighting the good fight and keep winning.

    1. I appreciate all your support. I know all the hard work and effort you put in makes a big difference in your health. The health care field is filled with challenges that impact our own personal health. Having exercise, diet and stress reduction techniques as allies helps combat the damaging effects life throws at us.

    1. It really comes down to personal responsibility. If we truly care about ourselves and our well being, we take the necessary steps (not only the easy ones) to insure our (health) needs are met. If we don’t care, we wait for evidence of disease and usually follow a path of chronic ongoing disease management. Is it really smart to consider this a “choice?”

Excellent post. I think that sometimes, being human and having the awesome capacity to reason and rationalize works against us sometimes. It makes it easier to support bad choices and avoid good ones. Not many people take personal responsibility for their own life and actions, but so much is within our power to change if we only show the will. Thank you for getting me thinking. 😀

    1. I can tell by your comments you place much thought and effort in the life you live. This shows a belief in self value; an essential mindset for searching and finding pathways that provide good health, happiness and fulfillment. Temptations always exist revealing alternate paths available to follow. Life is about BALANCE. It’s not about seeking perfection, but rather enjoying all that is available with an emphasis on lifestyle that produces the quality of life and health we CHOOSE.

…And Life is so short! I want to live as long as I can because I have a million things I want to accomplish, as hopefully we all do. To live a long life, we have to take care of ourselves — we only get this one body (unless Science changes that somehow…but then ethical concerns come into play….) Thank you for your insightful comments, and blessings to you!

  6. Life is complicated, but choosing to live a healthy lifestyle possible shouldn’t be. People go to work everyday not necessarily because they want to, but because they accept the responsibility to do so. If a person can’t apply this same logic to their own personal welfare, one must question their personal feelings of self value.

  10. We have discussed this before. When I first started following your blog, I was one who said it was too expensive, but as you stated the alternative would be far more expensive.

My wife and I are working hard on number three. For us, and perhaps for others, stress reduction may very well be the most difficult of the three to manage.

    1. Stress is very difficult to manage. One reason for this is we tend to focus on the stressful situation while our minds are overwhelmed. Focusing on the CHANNELS for stress reduces the emotional intensity and clears room in our minds creating greater clarity to discover better solutions. It takes practice to recognize when the stress levels exceed acceptable limits. Once we gain this experience, stress becomes less overwhelming because we know our CHANNELS will lessen the intensity and volatility of the situation.

      1. You are so right. We do tend to focus on the situation and we often allow it to overwhelm us. My wife and I have discussed being mindful in these tense situations, or at least trying to assist one another in avoiding an escalation. Thank you.

  13. As people begin to really listen and decide for themselves that no one will take better care in the decision making process, I want them to realize the vast amount of credible solutions that exist with potentially better and longer lasting outcomes. People LOVE SIMPLE; one choice, one answer, one solution. In reality, this is NOT TRUTHFUL and often provides “solutions” which do NOT best answer the problems. It’s up to the individual, however, to decide the value of their own health and well being. Simplicity and reduced health quality vs. Comprehensive LONG TERM solutions!

  15. I blame myself. I find solutions and they work for me but I might discontinue them once I get over that slump. I think of all the knowledge that I have at my fingertips and have said, “I don’t have the time.” Recently, I started reminding myself that I found the time to do things that were not necessarily beneficial and reversing the negative effects takes a lot more time and has a higher cost. So, for that reason, I am committed to staying educated, updated and healthy.

    1. It sounds like your usage of the term “solutions” is based on an older paradigm that “temporarily” addresses the issues at hand. My definition of SOLUTION provides LONG TERM ANSWERS that prevent recurring episodes of similar obstacles. Changing a mindset is different than focusing on a symptom. Example: If the mindset is seeking QUALITY HEALTH and the symptom is OBESITY, and the trigger is emotional anxiety, the SOLUTION should NOT be centered on EATING! The SOLUTION should be based on the areas of life that enhance a POSITIVE emotional experience. This helps to BALANCE a person’s LONG TERM NEEDS to overcoming a symptom (obesity) without turning to another component of this symptom (eating.) It is difficult to convince the mind to enjoy a behavior (ex. eating broccoli) that is healthy to offset a temporarily enjoyable behavior that is unhealthy (ice cream sundae.)

I am glad to see your commitment to personal wellness. I hope this explanation provided a view you may find beneficial along your own path to better living.

  16. Great post!

I really wish I had more time in the day – I think we all do. But I am surprised at how easy it has been to find the time to take Choppy on longer walks over the last couple months. Now, it’s just what we do – it turns out, I had plenty of time. I just needed to make the effort to use it for our walks.

    1. As we get older, we realize that CREATING time is the answer. Waiting for it to show up often results in spending additional time we can’t afford to waste.

It’s strange when it’s said simple, people make it too complicated. And you are right, it’s not easy.

    1. People do not take the time to think about the value they place on the quality of their own lives. We take for granted that “tomorrow” will come and be pretty much more of the same as “today.” I define this style of “living” as “SIMPLY EXISTING.” Until we begin to realize the IMPORTANT role we play in the quality of our health and our ability to LIVE and EXPERIENCE life, we will perpetuate a diminished level of physical, emotional and mental function.
