There is an innate sense to provide our children with food to demonstrate our LOVE for them. The reality is, poor food choices jeopardize our children from developing into healthy adults. At the end of this post you will find a 1 minute video sampling 5 common food choices we feed our children. Take a moment and apply the CONCEPT OF INGREDIENTS including sugar, food coloring, additives, chemicals, processing, etc… to the dangers we are exposing our children. It’s not just about the 5 foods you will see; it’s about the empty damaging food substances in general we are feeding our children. Although the intent is LOVE, the reality is DISEASE, DYSFUNCTION and a generation that might live a SHORTER life expectancy. I’ll bet that hugging your child; providing them the knowledge and lifestyle required for a healthy body and mind, and reinforcing the concept of a safe home environment will provide your child/children the LOVE they are looking for and NEED! Maybe it’s time we re-evaluate the food we keep in the house. If temptation is difficult for adults that understand the meaning of responsibility, can you imagine how difficult temptation is for children who don’t.
GOAL:
Let’s make a difference by giving our children a chance to grow up understanding the true meaning of love and an opportunity to avoid obesity, disease and early death. There isn’t a food like substance on this planet that aims to support this goal, so why introduce them to our children?

I feel bad enough for those adults causing damage to their own bodies, but they need to understand that children deserve a chance to grow up without having to face diabetes, cholesterol, gall bladder, liver, cardiac and the complications from obesity. Simplifying our lives with easy food choices that keep our children satisfied are destroying their lives. It’s not a reasonable trade-off.

It’s all so twisted when you think about it – when did prioritizing fun take over the purpose of food anyway? To get kids to eat more of the very thing that is bad for them? The conditioning has affected kids and adults alike. Great video – thanks for sharing that. ๐

Wow, raised on red licorice, my moms favorite, M&M’s,…oh my….thanks for another informational post….and glad that none of them have been part of my diet for a very long time….my husband is totally guilty…he loves gummy bears….I will no longer add to his addiction so he won’t get them as often….I wanted to mention that I was using gummi vitamins, the only thing I changed in my diet, this was over a year ago…I had been taking them for over 5-6 months, had blood test that came back with high sugar levels…great vitamin levels however my sugars spiked…I finally took a moment and really read the ingredients, hummm full of sugar…so I threw them away and went back to my old vitamins…had my FBS taken a few months later all back to normal…man did I ever let my guard down and believed the company I thought was honest, wholesome, and honest!!!! my mistake completely……kat

It is easy to get fooled. Many products show endorsements by organizations like the American Heart Association that nutritionally are void of real nutrients. Stick with the basics; REAL FOOD! That is a great starting place.

The best way I have found to change your way of eatng better is not to bring them into your house. It is easier that way. And less temptation to grab them, if they are not there.

I have already included this method in previous posts. I am very disciplined and I don’t keep “junk” in my house. Why create temptation?

I wanted to be a dietician a long time ago. And especially in schools for kids. But I knew I would be fighting against people in the higher levels.
But with enough people telling them you want better food at school for your child should work eventually.
I was surprised at what they served at schools now.

This too, is associated with politics. The ADA can’t expect us to believe the school menus are based on healthy choices. I am also tired of hearing, “they just won’t eat the healthier foods.” When people get hungry, they will eat whatever is available. It is our job as adults to act like adults and guide children into eating the foods they NEED to be eating. Children are not mature enough to tell adults what they will and won’t eat. When parents use the argument about, “choosing our battles,” this is one they need to choose!

It is so true, we do think that giving food is giving love, and often times that means food that is fun and not healthy! A hug and good word would help way more and be healthier! Never thought of it like that!

I have heard of food coloring being a problem for children prone to hyper-activity, especially those with ADD and especially red dye but that might just be because colored foods and drinks contain a high level of sugar. It’s interesting to note though that none of those mentioned has any dietary value and if you think about it, most ‘snacks’ are like that.
Oddly enough, most of them I can’t tolerate to begin with. I have a strange aversion to citric-acid, be it natural or synthetic, and seeing as most snacks and cool drinks contains citric-acid, either for preservation or as a taste enhancer, I steer well clear of them.
I’d venture to say, anything that needs their color or taste augmented in order for it to be appealing, holds no real dietary value … more than likely quite the opposite.

Just like cigarettes had chemicals to make tobacco more addictive, processed foods given to our children do the same. It has been shown that excitotoxins (chemicals that overstimulate the brain) are triggered stimulating pleasure centers the same way natural hormones and illegal substances like cocaine would. This creates a true addiction that often leads to obesity and other complications such as diabetes, cardiac disease, thyroid dysfunction and cancer. It is difficult to get the consumer to see that these “food like substances” are LEGAL forms of addictive drugs with disastrous outcomes. The world will awaken to these facts; the question becomes, “how much suffering of human life must first occur before we change our patterns of behavior?”

What a shame manufactures make foods such as the ones in the video that cause harm to humans. I’ve never understood how anyone could create foods that do this. All in the name of profit. Humans suffer so others can buy “yachts”. It’s so sad. I can only hope info like this gets out and people learn to take control of their health. A lot of it starts by cooking for ones self. I agree with your sentiments. I hope people begin understanding just how harmful many of “life’s conveniences” truly are. These posts are meant to show reality, yet offer REALISTIC SOLUTIONS for those ready to make the necessary changes in life. Those who have accepted the responsibility find it rewarding knowing they have control over the health of their bodies. Controlling one’s health is the basis for real opportunity in life.

Very true…if people stop eating junks and start putting in efforts to prepare and provide healthy food to their families that will be the best thing that can happen to our kids…after all nothing beats home-made goods!!

Since I am a realist, I don’t expect people to abandon these products. I just want them to understand the need to remove them as STAPLES in their diets. Eating these types of products sparingly should satisfy the “comfort” people enjoy without overrunning their bodies with toxicity.

OMG. I don’t have kids, but if I did, I wouldn’t even think of feeding them any of that crap. I always feel a bit disappointed and furious when I see parents giving little kids pop (or soda), I’ve even seen little toddlers given pop in their sippie cups, it’s so wrong.

Parents do not realize the harm. It’s not the small amount of pop or soda; it’s the pattern of eating that children are raised with. Healthy choices have become a second choice or ABSENT choice. We are very focused on financial cost of quality foods which never takes into account health complications and the COSTS associated with them (both physical and psychological.)
